Alpine Start Premium Instant Coffee

Saturday Sippings Vol 9

I decided to pawn this week’s edition off to Mike Crouch. Not only is Mike a good friend and great partner in the mountains he’s the CEO of Alpine Start. He’s been with the brand for over three years and has been a crucial team player in the growth of the company.
Hope ya enjoy his perspective.

My next trip to NYC will involve this place, and probably a nice vermouth or a gin and tonic. Though I just watched Okja so I will probably skip the baby pig.

Plastic is on my mind.

A lot.

As a company we realize that we need to be a part of the solution. We’ve been talking with people from all over the industry, including Patagonia and Clifbar about how we can avoid using plastic in our products, but the short explanation is that plastic provides the best barrier to air and moisture to keep things fresh. It’s annoying. I heard this story about microplastics being found in rainwater in Rocky Mountain National Park on NPR Friday morning and it really got to me. I’ve spent a lot of time climbing and splitboarding there over the years and it is near and dear to my heart. We’re hoping to have a solution to this by next year as far as Alpine Start is concerned. If you’ve got any leads on bioplastics, email me at mike@alpinestartfoods.com- I’d love to hear from you!   More about microplastics
