Matt and the team
Andrea Szekely is the Sales and Operations Manager. She keeps the wheels from falling off. Prior to Alpine Start she traveled the world competing in climbing competitions and is currently a climbing coach at Movement here in Boulder.
Emiko, her Shiba Inu is the boss dog of the office and lords over the other dogs with an iron fist.
Amy Segal Burke is our Creative Director and is responsible for our awesome design. Based in LA, she lives with her two children and husband. She prefers beach adventures over the moutains, but we forgive her because she is Matt's older sister who can still beat him up.
Sophie McKean is our Communications + Social Media Manager. She is the face of the brand and helps us with our day to day communications whether that's creating shitposting on tiktok or communicating with press.
She likes to go backpacking and snowboarding. Her Cavalier, Teddy, helps out during the day by constantly asking for treats and belly rubs.
Mike Crouch is our CEO. He does a bit of sales, a bit of managing and is the janitor occasionally as well. Before Alpine Start he started a successful pet food company with his brother.
Similar to his day job, he likes to dabble in a bit of everything outdoor related like snowboarding, surfing, biking and climbing.
Matt Segal is a professional climber based out of Boulder, Colorado. Sponsored by The North Face, YETI, Traeger and other brands, he has traveled the globe in search of the hardest traditional climbs in the world.
His idea for Alpine Start first came while he was on an expedition in Canada... While camping on the wall (google portaledge) he had an epiphany that the world needed some better instant coffee.
What's an Alpine Start?
Alpine Start noun /ˈalˌpīn stärt/
1. A predawn beginning for climbing high-altitude mountains or rocks with the purpose of reducing hazards such as avalanches, rockfall or inclimate weather.
2. A quick, no-nonsense drink that provides everything one needs to get a head start on climbing their metaphorical daily mountain.
