About Our Coffee

Let’s get it all out on the table:

Yes, we make instant coffee.

No, it doesn’t taste anything like instant coffee.

Yes, it destroyed Starbucks Medium Roast in taste tests.

No, we’re not kidding. We did a taste test, and light/medium roast coffee drinkers thought we tasted better than Starbucks brewed coffee 2 to 1.

How's It Made?

First, we start with slow-roasted, arabica beans grown on high-altitude Colombian farms. Then we brew it just like normal coffee. Next, we gently dehydrate it to lock in its full fresh-brewed flavor and aroma. Lastly, we package it so that you can easily take it with you anywhere. And as a bonus, it’s keto diet friendly!

Hot or cold, Alpine Start is perfect for morning coffee lovers who need more time to get shit done, whether that’s to enjoy a few mindful moments after your morning yoga routine, for an extra few seconds to put a heart-felt note in your kid’s lunch box, or just enough time to make sure you’re not running out the door with your shirt on backwards.

How Alpine Start Got Started

Getting up in the morning suspended 1,000 feet up on a rock wall is just a normal day at the office for Matt Segal, founder of Alpine Start and professional rock climber. Matt has climbed routes around the world for the last 20 years. Through all of that time of coffee stains and Aeropress accidents on high ledges, he decided that there had to be a better alternative. And with that, Alpine Start was born.

In climbing terms, an Alpine Start involves waking up before the sun to ensure the best climbing conditions, but we like to think that you’re just YOLOing and squeezing as much into your day as you can. Either way, we created Alpine Start to help you seize the morning. Whatever your Alpine Start is, we hope our coffee helps you live it to the fullest. Cheers!

Coffee with a cause.

Here at Alpine Start, we strongly believe that it’s our responsibility to protect the wild places we love from climate change. Not only does it threaten the pristine beauty of the mountains, but also the delicate balance of the high-altitude ecosystems where our coffee grows. It’s why we donate 1% of all sales to 1% for the Planet and are a Foundation Partner with Protect Our Winters (POW).

We’re constantly looking for ways to reduce our impact on the planet, so we’re working alongside sustainability leaders like Clifbar, The North Face, and others to help. One solution we’ve developed so far is our reusable and recyclable bulk jar, filled with 30 servings of our original blend instant coffee.

All of this is a step in the right direction, but there’s more we all can do.
